The holiday parties, gifts and baking are here, and although most of us indulge in extra treats or find our fitness classes cancelled over the break, we can keep things balanced! If I preach anything, it's moderation. Yes, I have that dark choclate that I love, but not a handful at a time. I'm not teaching or attending classes over the break so I try to take the time to go for extra walks and skating or sledding with the kids while they're home. When we head to the pool it's not too hard to sneak in a few laps between rounds in the hot tub.
It may be a relaxation of my routine, but I'm not throwing it all out the window with a promise to pay for it in January. I eat and live the way I do so that I feel good and have energy. If I over-eat, over-drink and sit around for too long, I feel like a grouchy slug and that is not good for anyone's holiday season.
Keep up the good habits you've already established so that you go into the new year with confidence!

Something New!
Welcome here! This site will be a work in progress, for now I just wanted a home to post the schedule on to get the word out for fall. I hope to be adding posts when I find interesting fitness related info I want to share.
Why the name? It reflects the way I feel that each of us is responsible for our own state of health and wellness. We can choose to join groups for a variety of reasons like motivation, learning, and sociability, but ultimately we craft our own individual lifestyles. There are so many fun, amazing things out there to try! I want to create an environment of motivation and exploration. If we're not having any fun and you don't learn anything new, I'm not doing my job.
At this point I am only teaching 2 classes a week. I know most of you want to work out more often and you need to to make progress. I'm advocating for my class members to go out and find something active they really love to do and then commit to doing it at least once or twice during the week. The activities that bring us pleasure are more likely to be the ones we stick with and contribute to an overall active lifestyle. The classes are designed to support that, to help strengthen the core and condition the muscles so that you are prepared to take new things on! It helps that we laugh a lot, although we may be able to attribute that to the ridiculously early time that we meet (6:15am).
